Our red Morris Minor stands proudly at the entrance into Motor Museum of Western Australia and frequently features in photos with Lightning McQueen fans.
The Early Days of our Morris Minor
When Motor Museum of Western Australia was first being established back in 1994, a number of vehicles were purchased to help fill out the museum and its contents. Included in one of these buys was an early 1950s Morris Minor.
The Morris Minor sat idle for many years and during Covid, an idea was struck to replace the existing vehicle, also a Morris Minor that was starting to deteriorate. But it would be a few years later before the idea would come to life.
From Blue and Yellow to Lightning-Fast Red
The idea was to use the Morris Minor inside the museum, give it a new paint job and show off its success as the Lightning McQueen successor!
Over several weeks in early 2023, Nick, a Motor Museum of Western Australia volunteer, took home the Morris Minor, fixed up the body work and painted the car to its new glory!
The car itself is still complete.
The fate of our Blue and Yellow Morris Minor – well just like all good things, retirement finally came about.
Why use the Number 94?
If you have seen the Cars Movie, you may have noticed that Lightning McQueen’s number is 95 – the same year that the first Pixar movie was release “Toy Story”, and in a similar vein, our number 94 celebrates the year that Motor Museum of Western Australia was first opened to the public.
