Sustainability and Positive Impact Initiatives

At the Motor Museum of Western Australia, we believe a great museum experience should do more than celebrate motoring history, it should also contribute positively to people, place and future generations. Sustainability for us means making thoughtful choices that help care for our environment, support our community and strengthen the Museum for years to come and we are proud to be Sustainable Tourism (SUST) Accredited, recognising our commitment to responsible tourism practices and continuous improvement.

Caring for our environment

We are committed to reducing our footprint through practical, everyday actions.

Our sustainability efforts include solar panels, LED lighting and an energy monitoring system that helps us track usage and guide future planning. We also manage water responsibly through grey water tanks and support for Whiteman Park’s reticulation network.

To reduce waste, we participate in Containers for Change, recycle paper, cardboard and other materials, and sell duplicate donated publications in our gift shop rather than sending them to landfill.

Supporting people and community

Our Museum is built on connection and collaboration.

We invest in our staff through training and development, and we are proud to work alongside volunteers who bring energy, skills and life experience to the Motor Museum every day.

We also value partnerships with schools, community groups and local organisations that help us share stories, inspire learning and create meaningful experiences for our visitors.

Once such example, is our ongoing collaboration with the year 10 students from Ellenbrook Secondary College who, since 2024, continue to create joy with their amazing murals skills.

Strong governance, thoughtful planning

Behind the scenes, we are guided by a volunteer Board of Directors and an operational General Manager who provide oversight, accountability and direction.

This helps us make considered decisions, plan for the future and ensure the Museum remains a welcoming, sustainable and well-run place for our community.

Looking ahead

We are always looking for new ways to improve, from reducing emissions and managing resources more efficiently to creating stronger community outcomes.
